The Brit Awards 2015 Predictions… Who will take home a trophy or 2!?

February 19, 2015

Below is an article I wrote specifically for!

If you haven’t already got Wednesday 25th February in your diary then now is the time to pencil it in. It’s one of the biggest nights in the industry and our dream night in with all our fave stars! This time next week the Brit Awards 2015 will be taking place, but who will walk away with a shiny trophy? (Or perhaps more than 1!)

Check out our predictions for this years winners below.

Mastercard British Album
Alt-J – ‘This Is All Yours’
Ed Sheeran – ‘X’
George Ezra – ‘Wanted On Voyage’
Royal Blood – ‘Royal Blood’
Sam Smith – ‘In The Lonely Hour’

Our prediction is… SAM SMITH!

Each album in this category is one you want to listen to from beginning to end. Royal Blood gave us their killer self titled album and bought back our love for british rock. However an album like ‘In The Lonely Hour’ deserves this award in our opinion. It’s not often you see an artist release five singles off of one album, but by doing this and with the public loving each one, Sam has shown that this album was crafted song by song to perfection.

British Male Solo Artist Nominees
Damon Albarn
Ed Sheeran
George Ezra
Paolo Nutini
Sam Smith

Our prediction is… ED SHEERAN!

This is definitely a tough one as most of the nominees in this category have been ‘man of the moment’ a lot in the past year. With Sam Smith being last years’ Brits Critics’ Choice winner and bringing us his amazing debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ and George Ezra taking over our radio stations with his upbeat tunes it really is hard to put our finger on a winner.

Paolo Nutini also produced an awesome album and Damon Albarn has just got so many strings to his bow we don’t know where to start! However our winner has got to be Mr Sheeran for bringing us his unforgettable album ‘X’ that we’re still not tired of listening to. Go on Teddy!

British Female Solo Artist Nominees
Ella Henderson
FKA Twigs
Jessie Ware
Lily Allen
Paloma Faith

Our prediction is… ELLA HENDERSON!

Another tough shout with some huge names in the mix. FKA Twigs blew us away with her debut album ‘LP1’ and who didn’t love Jessie Ware’s smash single ‘Say You Love Me’? Of course Lily Allen is a staple name and previous Brit winner and Paloma Faith has been nominated for this particular award more than once so it leaves a lot to consider…

The lady we would love to see win this award though, is the fantastic Ella Henderson. After coming sixth on The X Factor in 2012, we are seriously pleased she still made a career for herself. Especially by absolutely smashing her first few singles, in particular our faves, ‘Ghost’ and ‘Yours’.

British Group
Alt – J
Clean Bandit
One Direction
Royal Blood

Our prediction is… COLDPLAY!

A more diverse group of acts this time and they are all pretty mega in their own ways. It has got to be Coldplay purely for yet another captivating album and ‘Magic’ Need we say more?

International Male Solo Artist
Jack White
John Legend
Pharrell Williams

Our prediction is… HOZIER!

Some of our favourite artists are in this group alone so again it’s not easy to predict who you lot have been voting most for! With Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ (love it or hate it!) and John Legends brilliant comeback album, all nominees have done great things in the past year, however Hozier has got to be our winner. Although ‘Take Me To Church’ was actually released back in 2013, it has more recently become a massive hit and we still can’t stop listening to it. We think this man has massive things to come and we can’t wait to hear them.

International Female Solo Artist
Taylor Swift
Lana Del Rey
St Vincent

Our prediction is… TAYLOR SWIFT!

It’s been a great year for all of these women, Beyonce is timeless and Sia has bought us some hits we’ll be singing for years but our winner has got to be Taylor Swift.

We know this could cause Kanye to stand up and interrupt yet another awards ceremony as he praises Beyonce for being the greatest woman on earth (ok she’s not far off) but we firmly believe Taylor Swift deserves to take home this award. ‘1989’ has already become an absolute classic and we feel like alongside creating this album, Swifty grew up and became the fierce woman she now is.

International Group
War On Drugs
5 Seconds Of Summer
The Black Keys
First Aid Kit
Foo Fighters

Our prediction is… 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER!

With so many strong groups nominated in this category we had to go with our favourite Aussie boys, 5SOS. Their album pretty much took over our summer and they’ve had our emotions up and down from ‘She Looks So Perfect’ to ‘Amnesia’!

Critics’ Choice Award
James Bay
George The Poet
Years & Years

Our prediction is… JAMES BAY!

It was almost impossible to predict this winner as each new comer has already had such a great impact on the music industry so far! James Bay has stolen our hearts with songs like ‘Let it Go’ and ‘If You Ever Want To Be In Love’, George The Poet has bought something new and impressive to our radio stations with ‘Cat D’ and Years & Years have blown us away with singles like ‘Desire’ and our favourite song of the minute ‘King’.

With this said, we think the winner for this category might just be the long haired, fedora lover from Hertfordshire, James Bay. His songwriting is faultless and we’ve been longing to hear of someone new with that gravelly voice since the James Morrison days!

British Single
Calvin Harris – ‘Summer’
Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne – ‘Rather Be’
Duke Dumont featuring Jax Jones – ‘I Got U’
Ed Sheeran – ‘Thinking Out Loud’
Ella Henderson – ‘Ghost’
George Ezra – ‘Budapest’
Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars – ‘Uptown Funk’
Route 94 featuring Jess Glynne – ‘My Love’
Sam Smith – ‘Stay With Me’

The stand out single for us amongst this amazing bunch has got to be ‘Uptown Funk’. First of all, the collaboration with Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars worked magically and this song has had us all up and moving at some point. A real feel good tune, even if it is on more than one radio station at a time sometimes, it won’t fail to put you in a good mood!

British Video
Calvin Harris – ‘Summer’
Charli XCX – ‘Boom Clap’
Duke Dumont featuring Jax Jones – ‘I Got U’
Ed Sheeran – ‘Thinking Out Loud’
Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars – ‘Uptown Funk’
One Direction – ‘You And I’
Rita Ora – ‘I Will Never Let You Down’
Route 94 featuring Jess Glynne – ‘My Love’
Sam Smith – ‘Stay With Me’
Sigma – ‘Nobody To Love’

Our prediction is… ONE DIRECTION – ‘YOU AND I’

Some really great videos to choose from and an award we love predicting the winner of. Not only has ‘You and I’ got to be one of our favourites off of ‘Midnight Memories’ but the video was so perfectly thought out. (Not just because the boys look fit either…) They’re walking along in black and grey, looking all sad and they’re really making us believe the song and that they actually miss us. Sad? Maybe, however we hope the boys win this one!

British Breakthrough Act
FKA Twigs
George Ezra
Royal Blood
Sam Smith

Our prediction is… GEORGE EZRA!

We don’t know about you but we’ve really enjoyed being introduced to this cute little face in the past year! Not to mention his ridiculously catchy songs which we are happy to hear over and over again. Don’t get us wrong, there have been a lot of unique and amazing breakthrough acts but for us, this one has to go to Mr Ezra!

What do you make of all these predictions? Agree or Disagree? Let us know in the comments below! And tune into The Brit Awards 2015 live on ITV from 8pm Wednesday 25th February.
